SEPTEMBER – Nå er vi vel sånn omtrent midt i den norske epleseongen. Glasseplene er historie og vintereplene blir sakte men sikkert modne. I år var det en rar eplehøst. På grunn av en liten kuldeperiode som falt sammen med blomstringen på vinterepletreet vårt har vi nesten ingen epler på det. Normalt har vi massevis. Men jeg har forstått at det er mange som har MYE epler i år, og da gjelder det å få brukt eplene. Nedenfor finner du mine 5 beste oppskrifter med eple.

Det er jo grenser for hvor mye epler som kan spises, så da blir det jo en utfordring å sørge for at eplene blir spist og ikke havner som råtten nedfallsfrukt. Kaker og muffins kan naturligvis fryses ned, og det samme kan eplemosen. Men med mindre du har en enorm fryser er det begrenset hvor mye det er mulig å fryse med. Mitt triks er å spise så mye vi bare klarer i sesongen, dessuten prøver vi å være flinke til å ta med på jobb og skole. Alt vi ikke klarer å spise leveres til juicepressing.

Denne desserten er utrolig god. Den er også enkel å lage og inneholder stort sett bare ting du ganske sikkert allerede har hjemme på kjøkkenet. Her har eplene fått følge av deilig vaniljeis. Dette er en super dessert som like gjerne kan serveres til hverdag som til fest.

Deilige søte, saftige muffins blir jo aldri feil, og disse smaker friskt uten å bli oversøte.

Andebryst med eple

Epler kan brukes til så mangt og slett ikke bare til søte ting. Her har jeg brukt epler sammen med andebryst. Det er en særdeles heldig kombinasjon når eplene er litt syrlige slik at de balanserer det litt fete andekjøttet.

Bakt eplemos

Denne eplemosen er like god som den er vakker. I stedet for å koke eplene med litt vann og sukker i en gryte, er eplene til denne mosen bakt i ovnen, med skallet på. Når vannet i eplene fordamper blir smaken mer konsentret og det er heller ikke behov for like mye sukker.  Resultatet er en eplemos med mer eplesmak og en helt aldeles nydelig farge.

Svigermors eplekake

Denne kaken blir like vellykket hver gang jeg baker den. Den er søt og god og saftig på grunn av alle eplene. Med unntak av epleskrellingen er det også en kake som er enkel å få i stand.

Uttrykket «an apple a day, keeps the doctor away» er ikke et gammelt ordtak, men et catchy slagord som et reklamebyrå fant opp under forbudstiden i USA da eplebøndene ikke lenger kunne lage og selge eplesider. Da ble det behov for å skape nye markeder for alle eplene og slagordet så altså dagens lys. Det er med andre ord verken et gammelt kjerringråd eller har rot i legevidenskapen, men rett og slett et reklamepåfunn for å selge mer epler.
