FEBRUAR – det er nok mange som ikke tenker på at sitroner har en spesiell sesong. Og slik har det jo etterhvert blitt med mange slags frukt og grønnsaker – det er alltid et sted på kloden de er i sesong. Men sitroner, altså. Akkurat nå i februar begynner sesongen for sitroner rundt Middelhavet. I Frankrike feirer de sitronene med en egen fesitval i byen Menton og her hjemme kan vi kjøpe de litt midre sure sitronene fra Amalfi nå i februar. Sitroner er en allsidig liten frukt som jeg nesten alltid har hjemme. De kan brukes i nesten alt fra desserter og bakst til middagsmat. Sitroner setter en ekstra spiss på en litt kjedelig saus og noen dråper i teen er klassisk. For å gi deg litt inspirasjon til hva du kan gjøre med sitroner har jeg samlet mine 5 beste oppskrifter med sitron nedenfor.

Hvis jeg først skal kose meg med noe søtt til teen min, er disse kjeksene noe av det beste jeg kan tenke meg. De er nydelige med en deilig smak av sitron. Visste du forresten at biscotti er det generelle ordet for kjeks i Italia og at disse kjeksene kalles cantucci i støvlelandet.

Jeg fortsetter med mat hentet fra Italia. Denne gangen er det en særdeles enkel, men ikke desto mindre velsmakende spagettirett. Det eneste du strengt tatt trenger i tillegg til spagettien er sitroner, fløte og rikelig med parmesan.

Torsk med sitronsaus

At fisk og sitron hører sammen er ikke akkurat noen hemmelighet. Her har dampet torsk fått følge med en frisk smørsaus smakssatt med rikelig med sitron.

Panna cotta med sitron

De fleste liker panna cotta som avslutning på et deilig måltid, og denne er nok ikke noe unntak. Den har akkurat så mye sitron at den er passe syrlig uten å være sur, og derfor oppleves den som litt lettere og friskere enn mange fløtebaserte desserter kan være.

Oh la la, denne aldeles nydelige sitronkremen som kan brukes til så mangt. . Så utrolig godt på en brødskive, boller, scones, på pavlova, i rullekaken eller rett og slett bare spise rett ut av glasset.

Fun fact om sitroner

Sitroner og mafiaen. På midten av 1880-tallet var sitroner det mest lønnsomme landbruksproduktet i hele Europa og et stort eksportprodukt. Fra Sicilia gikk det hele 2,5 millioner esker med sitroner til USA hvert år. På samme tid var det politisk ustabilitet og opprør mange steder på Sicilia. Det var mye kriminalitet og mange jordeiere opplevde at sitroner ble stjålet og trær ødelagt av vandaler og tyver. Mange leide derfor inn vakter for å passe på avlingene sine. Disse vaktene var i mange tilfeller kjeltringer som utnyttet situasjonen til egen vinning og dette ga mafiaen vind i seilene og bidro til at den fikk en kratig økning og styrke.
