I helgen spiste vi kalkun, og i etterkant satt jeg igjen med en del kalkunkjøtt. Jeg bestemte meg for å lage en mais chowder med kalkunrester. For de som har vært inne på bloggen før, er det neppe noen overraskelse at jeg valgte å lage en suppe av restene. Jeg elsker supper i alle varianter. Nå som det er kaldt ute, synes jeg det er ekstra tilfredsstillende å sette meg ned med en rykende varm suppebolle.

Chowder er en amerikansk suppevariant som er tyknet med hvetemel og gjerne også inneholder melk eller fløte. Opprinnelig ble den laget med sjømat av fiskere (eller kanskje fiskerkoner, helst), men denne typen suppe passer også godt til grønnsaker og kjøtt også. Mais chowder er en ikke uvanlig variant av denne suppetypen. Og fordi kalkun og mais heller ikke er en uvanlig kombinasjon, ville jeg prøve det ut. Og det må jeg si denne suppen ble virkelig skikkelig god.

Melne poteter er med på å jevne suppen ekstra, mens maiskornene gir en litt sprø effekt. Kalkunen passer ypperlig sammen med de andre smakene og gjør at suppen metter ekstra godt. Dessuten får suppen et lite, mildt kick av chilien. Suppen har også en ganske tykk, men silkemyk konsistens samtidig som den har biter av poteter og mais. Det gjør at den nesten kan oppleves som en stuing, eller gryterett. Men uansett hva man velger å kalle denne, så smaker den aldeles nydelig og metter godt. Og så varmer den herlig i en kald vinterkropp.

Ingredienser

  • 1 stor gul løk
  • 2 fedd hvitløk
  • 2 ss smør
  • 1 l hønsebuljong (eller kalkunkraft om du har)
  • 6 melne poteter
  • 1/2 chili
  • 3 dl melk
  • 4 ss hvetemel
  • 1 stor boks mais
  • 400 gr kalkun

Fremgangsmåte

  • Skjær potetene i små terninger.
  • Finhakk løk og hvitløk og fres det i smør i en stor gryte til det er mykt og blankt.
  • Tilsett poteter, finhakket chili og hønsebuljong/kraft i gryten og la det småkoke i 10 minutter.
  • Hell halvparten av melken i gryten og ha oppi maisen.
  • Rør melet ut i resten av melken til det er klumpefritt (du kan evt. riste det sammen i et syltetøyglass).
  • Skjær kalkunkjøttet i små terninger.
  • Hell melblandingen i suppen i en tynn stråle, og tilsett kalkunkjøttet.
  • La det koke 2-3 minutter til suppen har tyknet.
  • Smak til med salt og pepper.

Server rykende varm, gjerne med brød ved siden av.
