I hagen vår har vi to epletrær og et plommetre. Det ene epletreet er Transparente Blanche, eller glassepler om du vil. Eplene er litt kantete i formen, lyse, gulgrønne og etter min smak alt for syrlige til å spise. Disse eplene blir også modne lenge før eplene på det andre treet vårt. Det er i andre halvdel av august at disse er på topp. Dette er epler som ikke egner seg særlig godt til lagring, men som bør spises her og nå. Det er i hvert fall hva jeg har tenkt inntil nå.

Fordi jeg ikke synes disse eplene er særlig gode å spise, har de i stor grad blitt hengende på treet og råtnet, selv om jeg har forsøkt å forsyne barnehager og skoler med så mye som de har kunnet spise.  At frukten råtner på treet er jo ikke særlig hyggelig, så i år bestemte jeg meg for å forsøke å gjøre noe med det. Safting og sylting er ikke noe jeg har beskjeftiget meg i særlig grad med før. Det skyldes i stor grad at jeg har tenkt at det er vanskelig og tidkrevende. Men det var altså før jeg hadde prøvd. Det er rart hvordan fordommer hindrer en i å forsøke.

Vel, i dag fikk fordommene hvile, og jeg klatret opp i gardintrappen for å plukke ned epler. Målet var å lage eplemos av eplene. Inne på kjøkkenet gikk jeg målrettet i gang. Eplene ble skrelt og kjernehusene fjernet før jeg skar eplene opp i litt grove biter. Etter koking og mosing ble alt kjølt ned. Noe går i fryseren og noe spises med en gang på brødskiver med smør.

Etter etterspørselen i heimen å dømme, var dette et vellykket eksperiment. Og dessuten var det faktisk kjempeenkelt å gjøre. Så dette ble nok ikke siste gangen.  For eksperimentets skyld lagde jeg av en kilo epler, men jeg ser helt klart for meg at med en større gryte og bedre kapasitet i fryseren kunne jeg fint laget av flere kilo. Oppskriften nedenfor er derfor bare å gange opp dersom du vil lage en større porsjon.

Ingredienser

  • 1 kg epler
  • 1,5 dl vann
  • 2 dl sukker
  • 1 vaniljestang
  • 2 ss sitronsaft

Fremgangsmåte

  • Skrell eplene og fjerne kjernehusene.
  • Skjær eplebitene i litt grove biter og legg dem over i en kasserolle sammen med vaniljestangen som er splittet i to.
  • Hell på vannet og la det koke til eplene går i oppløsning.
  • Mos eplene. Her kommer smak og behag inn i bildet. Ønsker du en helt glatt eplemos kan du presse den gjennom en sil eller kjøre massen i en blender.
  • Selv nøyde jeg meg med å bruke en sånn presse som jeg også bruker til å lage potetstappe med.
  • Tilsett sukker og sitron og la det koke i 7-8 minutter under omrøring.
  • Voila eplemosen er ferdig.
  • Sett hele kasserollen i oppvaskkummen med kaldt vann i for å kjøle raskt ned.
  • Ta ut vaniljestangen og hell så eplemosen over i beholdere som egner seg til frysing og frys ned så snart mosen har blitt kald.

Tips

Der ikke konsververingsmiddel i denne mosen, så derfor bør den spises i løpet av et par dager dersom den altså ikke fryses ned. Velbekomme.
